Truck lovers in Heidelberg likely know all about the Ford F-150 at Woltz & Wind Ford. This full-size, light-duty pickup has been North America’s best-selling truck for decades. This is due to its strong performance and reputation for toughness and reliability. For those who don’t know, Ford also makes an all-electric version of this popular truck called the Lighting. The 2024 F-150 Lighting is available now, but plenty of 2023 models are still on the market. Read on to find out how these models compare.
What's New for 2024?
The available trim levels for the F-150 Lightning get a bit of a shakeup in 2024. In 2023, there were four trim levels that Ford called the Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum models. The Pro model has been dropped for 2024, making the XLT the new base model. There’s now a new Flash trim level that sits in between the XLT and Lariat trims. The Flash trim gets all of the best tech options that the F-150 Lightning has to offer. This includes features like a 15.5-inch touchscreen and Blue Cruise hands-free driving technology. The Flash also gets an extended-range battery enabling it to go up to 320 miles on a single full charge. This also increases the truck’s towing capacity to 7,700 pounds.
Platinum Black Special Edition
The Flash trim level isn’t the only new F-150 Lightning model to debut in 2024. This model year also gets a new Platinum Black Special Edition. This model may suit you if you want a distinct truck that will stand out on the streets. In addition to its Matte-Black paint job, the Platinum Black gets several Agate Black gloss features like wheels, lug nuts, running boards, and badging. The truck also gets a nice blacked-out tonneau cover and 22-inch alloy wheels.
Addition New Features
All four 2024 trim levels now get keyless entry. Ford’s Blue Cruise hands-free tech gets upgraded to the new 1.2 system for the current model year. Another change from the 2023 models is how the Pro Power generator now powers up the F-150 Lighting as soon as you unlock the truck. It’s worth noting that 2023 F-150 Lighting owners can also get the Blue Cruise and Pro Power upgrades as software updates.
Strong Performance
The changes for 2024 weren’t too revolutionary for the Ford F-150 Lighting. The two new models are certainly welcome additions. One of the things that remains the same is the strong performance you’ll get from either version of this truck. Both have dual electric motors and a battery pack producing 452 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque. Ford offers an extended-range battery if you need even more power for the toughest jobs around town. Remember that this is installed automatically for the new Flash trim level. This increases the horsepower to 580 with 775 pound-feet of torque.
Every model of the Ford F-150 Lighting comes equipped with 4X4 all-wheel drive for exceptional off-road capabilities. This includes all four trim levels of both the 2023 and 2024 models. No matter which F-150 Lighting you choose, you’ll get a powerful truck that can take you anywhere. If you need to get to a remote worksite or love an occasional outdoor adventure, the F-150 Lighting is a fantastic truck.
